Spirit of Krishna
Is this Classical or is this Folk? Well it is a good combination of the two. Maestro Shashank’s reposeful flute combines with the rustic and folksy flavour of traditional Rajasthani Folk music by the Manganiyars known for their Krishna geet, the sublime sounds of the sitar and three virtuoso percussionists playing the Mridangangam, Tabla and Dholak.

Sundara
Part 2 of the two CD / DVD album from a live performance held at Chennai, India in 2010, this album consists of three Ragam Tanam Pallavi' s ( a major form composition that mostly lends inteslf to creative improvisation) in one of the Parent melodies of Carnatic Music - Rag Simendramadhyamam and is rendered in three different Tala systems. While music and the format of the Pallavi's rendered are intensely South Indian, it also is akin to the North Indian system of Music that presents various different compositions within the same melody and in different speeds from the slowest 32 beats to a 5 beat cycle and sulminating in a fast compoosition in 8 beat cycle.

Floating Point
For Floating Point, which was recorded in India, McLaughlin used several of the best Indian musicians in the world. McLaughlin calls these players the "young lions" of India. They include keyboardist Loiuz Banks, drummer Ranjit Barot, electric sitarist Niladri Kumar, flautists Shashank and Naveen Kumar, percussionist Sivamani, vocalist Shankar Mahadevan, electric mandolinist U.Rajesh, and Hindustini slide guitarist Debashish Bhattacharya. Joining them were other Western stars saxophonist George Brooks and bassist Hadrien Feraud. With a line-up like that, you would expect a very Indian experience.

Live at Coppenhagen Jazz Festival
This 2008 concert with his New Jungle Orchestra begins with "Mbizo Mbizo," a wild piece that starts as a duet by the guitarist and tenor saxophonist Morten Carlsen delving into the avant-garde and then features a quote from "O Solo Mio" on koro by Dawda Jobarteh and quotes from jazz standards by Thelonious Monk and Duke Ellington before it is transformed by Josefine Cronholm's dreamy vocal. "Swaralaya," penned by Indian flutist Shashank Subramanyam and featuring its composer initially on bass flute and later on Indian flute, is a captivating composition that is full of tension. Dørge's "Whispering Elephants" has an ominous air, particularly due to Irene Becker's eerie synthesizer. Highly recommended.

Enchanting Hamsadhwani
Raag Hamsadhwani a very popular melody in both South and North India was actually named by Ramswami Dikshitar, an 18th century South Indian composer. A raaga which is performed during all times of the day, has been one of Shashank's favourite raagas. Every time an artist playa this raaga, it unfolds several unexplored fathoms. In this album, Shashank and Parupalli Phalgun on the Mridangam have brought out many beautiful aspects of this melody.

Raag Lathangi
The new CD featuring Shashank and Abhijit Banerjee on Tabla.  A prolific performer in the South Indian music  tradition, Shashank has always been a connoisseur and student of Hindustani vocal music. This album is a conscious and sincere exploration into the format of north Indian music, to experience newer dimensions of Raag Latangi, a traditional South Indian melody, accompanied by Tabla instead of Mridangam.

Moksha - Salvation
Shashank presents Raag Saramathi, born out of the parent raag Nata Bhairavi. An emotionally charged melody, bhakthi and self realization are the essence of this Raag. Discovered by Saint Tyagaraja who composed the master piece Mokshmu Galada.  A favorite Raag of Shashank, this album presents a wholesome and elaborate exploration of the Raag using many, including the deep bass flutes.
